Factors affecting adoption of technical, organisational and institutional dairy innovations in selected milksheds in Kenya

Technical dairy innovations (TDI), such as improved cow feeding, health management and genetic improvement, could boost milk production. At the same time, organisational institutional (OIDI), including group sales, feed credit access, supply chain efficiency. This study examined TDI adoption determinants OIDI intensity. Data were collected from 1146 farmers (410, 382 354 in milksheds of Mukurweini Wakulima Dairy Limited [MWDL], Happy Cow [HCL] New Kenya Co-operative Creameries [NKCC], respectively) analysed using a double hurdle model. Access to positively influenced three milksheds. Adoption was by hired employees, records, total cows household head education. The empirical evidence supports observation that intensity is income, farm size, information access. To adoption, development partners should link cooperative society members with agricultural lenders. Additionally, dissemination stakeholders spur while providing training on record keeping be promoted adoption.
